Our Story

We are a people that love Jesus Christ. We follow and teach His word as a way of life. We love others and seek to show God’s love to everyone. All who visit have a similar comment, “you can feel the love of God in the people.” If you visit, we are sure you will sense the same. We are a holiness driven church. This means that we aren’t trying to be perfect, but we yield ourselves to the work of God in us and in our lives. We welcome you!

Our Beliefs

We believe that Jesus, God’s only Son, with the empowering of The Holy Spirit is our salvation. The foundational history of all of God’s work through the church can be found in the Holy Bible. For the scriptural basis, structure, and history of our church, we encourage you to glance at the first two chapters of the discipline of the Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Church by clicking here.

That being said, we want to share with you 4 basic values that our church can be divided up into.

  1. Prayer:
You will often say a motto we have which is “Pray First!
Prayer is foundational for communication with God, for community with each other, for healing, and for direction from God through the Holy Spirit. We have several groups that pray, our main group on Thursday nights. And, all of our small groups and main services begin with a moment of prayer.
  2. Discipleship:
All of our groups, large and small, have components of teaching and learning about God’s help in our life through the bible. We are called to be disciples of Jesus, followers of Him and to grow strong spiritually under His teaching.
  3. Next Steps:
When people have found that Wichita is a place they would like to have as their church home, it is our job to share the opportunities which help people be a part. Not just to receive what we need, but to give what others need. What part might you be in growing and helping others grow? This is the exciting part about being a part of a church body, seeing others come to know Jesus through our part.
  4. Evangelism:
Our motto is “We serve others with God’s love”. We want to reach our community! We have several times throughout the year where we come along side the community’s events and see how we can serve(see our events calendar). Also, in all of our small groups, a key emphasis is that we want to see how we can change to have new people be a part. Our mission isn’t just that we grow closer to God, but that we want others to help grow closer to God. It is our huge encouragement in being a part of a church. “It’s not about us, it’s about others”.

“I want to point as many as I can to Gods love, hope, joy, direction, healing, and empowerment to encounter life. For our church, I want to see it grow in health and beauty as it relies on the grace Jesus offers through His forgiveness on the cross. I long for us to love the neighborhood of Wichita in new and miraculous ways to the glory of God.” Let me know what you think.

When Nancy and I returned to Wichita, I asked God where I was to serve. God’s answer was for me to help the Pastor. When I said yes, I had no idea that this is where it was going to lead. My advice to everyone is “say yes to God and hold on, it’s a kick”

Proverbs 11:16 “A kind hearted women gain honor..” We believe God isn’t looking for perfection, but that He wants to form us into something greater than we can imagine, to make us noble and we are ALL a work in progress!

Starting a child’s journey with God at an early age is such an importance. At Wichita Avenue Evangelical Church, working hand in hand with parents, we help nurture and develop children’s foundational understanding of God and his son Jesus through bible stories, songs, and prayer.

My wife and I have a soft spot in our hearts for teens and feel that it is extremely important that they have a safe place to go where they can feel like they belong. I have been in youth ministry since 2013.
